We Own the Sky

So my last post was on a favorite photo, and it got me thinking about other things I consider my favorites. I can't exactly pick a favorite music video, but this one is definitely up there. The video for "We Own the Sky" by M83 was actually chosen from a film contest, and this was the winning submission. The cinematography gives it a yellow vintage photograph feel and the actors and actresses are perfectly cast. Also, I tend to appreciate any video that uses slow motion in a truly captivating fashion.

Beautifully Offbeat

Thank you to Samuel Bradley because I have found one of my favorite photographs of all time and its his. I'm loving his work, especially when it takes place in forests or in some foggy abyss of nature.
Here's Bradley's flickr and blog for everyone to look at too!

Whenever I take a look at the photo above, it reminds me of summer. Only in that season could you lay on the ground of a forest with friends like that.

Happy Saint Patty's Day!

I've had this song on repeat all day, and I think you'd all agree that it's appropriate for the occasion.
"Irish Celebration" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis has become my anthem on those many adventurous nights out. That's kind of the theme of the music video too, check it out.

P.S. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are going to be performing at Sasquatch, can't wait to see 'em live!

99 Pink Balloons Go By

 via hello katelyn.

What a sight. Take me back to Paris, it's been too long and I can actually put the French I now know to use. Je t'aime, Paris!

#34. Ride an Elephant

One of the things on my bucket list is to ride an elephant. But just hanging out with one like the fellow in this photo would put me on cloud nine as well.

Whiter Shades of Pale

Dead week and finals have officially been sucking up every bit of time I have. However, spring break is soon enough and I'll definitely be able to post more regularly again. Yay!

So I know it's a small and silly interest, but I love coffee table books. "The Selby Is in Your Place" and "Elliott Smith" are both currently on my bookshelf at home, sitting there for whenever I randomly flip through them. The next book I'd like to add to my tiny collection is "Whiter Shades of Pale: The Stuff White People Like, Coast to Coast from Seattle's Sweaters to Maine's Microbrews," written by the guys behind the witty, observational site called Stuff White People Like. In it, the "typical white Portlander" is mentioned and analyzed among many other cities. There's just always something to appreciate about the type of humor that points out the obvious.

Pep Rally

A friend of mine recently introduced me to Hoodie Allen. Besides the clever name, he's a rapper who spits more pop culture references than anyone I've ever heard. Oh and he likes to sample indie songs, and I'm obsessed with tracks like "Tighten Up" and "So Much Closer." So, I've been inspired to share his awesomeness here.
Your welcome.

Flickr Photo of the Day: I'll Miss the Grapes

This blissful photograph taken by Katie Silvester, makes me miss living on a vineyard so much. My grandparents used to own The Dundee Hills Vineyard and my family and I lived with them there when we first moved to Oregon. It's even where my parents were married! I feel a wine tasting day trip is in order this summer if my mom, dad or whoever are up for it. The pic below is of little me and my Grandpa Joe, clearly having a grand ol' time on the vineyard.

365 Polaroid Quotes

Polaroid photos and quotes, just a couple of my favorite things. Parker Fitzgerald's every day project for 2010 was to combine the two, and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

The last photo I posted above was actually taken on my birthday! Find yours and take a look-see at the rest of the 365 Polaroid Quote project!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Some people hate today, and some people love it. I'm pretty neutral, but I can't complain about the abundance of sweets wrapped in pink and red wrappers. For dessert at my sorority, we even had red velvet cupcakes with buttercream frosting and a chocolate heart on top!

Unofortunately, my boyfriend Andrew and I both have a lot of work to do tonight so we decided that we'd celebrate this holiday on another day of the week. I'm kind of hoping we go to The Vintage for dinner, even though we said we wanted to branch out. We shall see!

Nerd Valentine

Let's face it, we're all nerds in some way or another.
And for Valentine's Day, there are gift ideas a plenty on Nerd Valentine for your equally nerdy significant other.

oh goodness...that was not meant to rhyme, yet it strangely fits with this post.

Sasquatch Lineup 2011!

The moment I have been waiting for! I've got a 4 day pass to Sasquatch, and this year's lineup is finally out! There are so many bands I'm ecstatic about seeing live, and some of them I'll even be seeing a second time!

(click the poster to enlarge)

P.S. I'd like to add that I just love the poster art they do every year for this music festival. I will no doubt be buying either a shirt or a poster this year!

It's called Zooey's Miscellany, and it's all kinds of awesome.

Have a great weekend, folks!

It's Been Awhile

As soon as I saw this picture, it made me realize how much of an art museum craving I've had lately. The funny thing is, I live only a block away from one. So I am making a plan to visit the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art sometime in the next week. Maybe I'll even see something I love enough to post here.

"Animal (Miike Snow cover)" - Javier Dunn

Once I am able to embed an adobe flash player in my posts, then I'll replace this youtube video with that. I just had to post this song on here ASAP. It's quite a find if I do say so myself.

Moleskines: Jordan Kay

When I'm browsing an artist's portfolio, I usually look at their "sketches" folder first. I find that unorganized and unrelated doodling is often the work I enjoy the most. My favorite is when an artist sketches in a Moleskine notebook, especially because I have one myself that I occasionally scribble down great song lyrics in. Expect to see many more future posts on any creative Moleskine sketches I happen to stumble upon!

For the Love of Bunting

Interior Inspiration: Bunting

I absolutely cannot wait till next year when I'll be back to living in an apartment (or house). For now, my sorority is a great place to live, but I miss having a kitchen I can use and a bedroom to personalize. Hopefully my new roommates will want to decorate our place as much as I do. I'm rather in love with the idea of stringing bunting against a wall. My favorites are cloth ones with mix-matched colors and patterns.

Maxim Dalton

It may not be apparent yet since this blog is still pretty new, but I have a great love for Wes Anderson's films.

I found Maxim Dalton's art when I was looking at some pieces online from the Bad Dads exhibit in San Francisco. The works shown were all tributes to Wes Anderson. As you can imagine, Dalton's "The Royal Tenenbaums" posters caught my eye instantly. I'm so very tempted to buy the print below titled "111 Archer Ave" for my room.

Brook Weeber

I love Portland shout-outs! Brook Weeber, the artist of this intricate sketch is believe it or not, from Portland. I tend to be drawn to lots of art that contains many detailed repetitive lines within a picture. If you like that plus the look of soft watercolor and perhaps the appearance of animals, then check this lady out.

Keep Calm and Ride On

What a game, last night! Auburn won the National Championship by a field goal, ending the game at a score of 22-19. Boys, we were so darn close! I'm so proud to be a duck still, because making it this far was one of the greatest events in my college experience. So while we didn't conquer our last game like we did the Pac-10, at least we put up the biggest fight! So it's now the day after, and the best thing to do is "Keep Calm and Carry On." However, a more Eugene way to say that would be:

The Natty is Finally Here!

Today's the day! The BCS National Championship game is going to be on TV soon, and my Oregon ducks are playing the Auburn tigers in Glendale, Arizona. C'mon University of Oregon, let's make history! And as Chip Kelly says, WIN THE DAY!!!

Here's to hoping Puddles will get to do a victory heel click when the game's over.
